IEC 61508
International standard for the development of electric, electronic and programmable electronic (E/E/PE) systems that perform a safety function. The application of that standard in companies is primarily driven by the product liability law. The manufacturer may state in a product liability process that he applied a recognized method of risk assessment and safe product development and product manufacturing. The IEC 61508 is based on following ideas regarding the risks:
- Zero-risk can never be achieved
- Safety must be considered from the beginning
- Non-tolerable risks must be reduced (ALARP)
ISO 26262
Standard for safety-related electric/electronic systems in passenger vehicles. It defines a process framework and process model coming with demanded activities and work products and methods to be used. The implementation of the standard shall ensure the functional safety of a system consisting of electric/electronic components in the vehicle. The ISO 26262 is an industry-specific derivative of the IEC 61508 for the vehicle.
ISO/TS 16949
This standard/technical specification combines existing general requirements for quality management systems in the automotive industry. This standard aims at improving the system and process quality in order to increase the customer satisfaction, to detect failures and risks in the production process and the supply chain, to eliminate their causes and to examine the effectiveness of taken corrective and preventive measures.
