Glossary

Degradation concept

Usually, occurring failures involve function limitations and warnings to the driver besides the immediate function's shutdown. The degradation concept defines how the functionality needs to be graded in order to guarantee its availability. Similar to the warning concept, the degradation concept is a failure tolerance mechanism.

DoE (Design of Experiments)

A targeted design of experimental programmes for data assessment to get extensive and informative knowledge about unknown correlations between existing influencing factors and the intended results in a system (product or process) – all with minimal efforts.

DRBFM (Design Review based on Failure Mode)

A quality method that accompanies the development phase of a process/product in its product development process. It is used for failure prevention and enables the detection of potential weaknesses/problems already in the development phase and especially change process.

With the further development of the method FMEA, DRBFM resulted as a tool that overcomes the formalism while applying the method. The engineers focus on their products' and processes' changes while being on the project team.
